“In order for someone who is affected by a gambling problem to seek help, there must first be awareness of the problem and of the solution. This comes through education and awareness of what a gambling disorder is, what it looks like, potential warning signs to look for, as well as by providing access to help, because one can’t get help for a gambling problem if they don’t know that help exists!” said Jennifer Kruse, FCCG’s Executive Director. Unlike other addictions, problem gamblers do not display physical signs. There are no “card marks” on the arms, no “roulette breath,” no “dice eyes,” and no saturation point. While visible symptoms are minimal, problem gamblers are often depressed, anxious, and may have suicidal thoughts. They often neglect family and friends, run up large amounts of debt, and may be involved in illegal activity in order to fund their gambling addiction. Gambling addiction is a diagnosable and treatable mental health disorder. Help and hope are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Click here to learn more!

Current forms of fantasy sports contests have raised concerns about the addictive potential of fantasy sports. Fantasy sports are contests in which participants assemble imaginary teams comprised of real players from professional sports and compete based on the statistical performance of the real players. Traditional fantasy sports leagues are season-long, but recently contests have been offered that are as frequent as daily. Fee-based contests, with fees ranging from twenty-five dollars to thousands, are available, and prizes have topped $1 million. Partners and investors in companies offering fantasy sports contests include sports leagues, professional teams and their owners, as well as large public and private companies. Of the estimated 55 million…

The original and primary text describing this process is the Dream World of the Gambler (GA Combo Book, p 11). This text is read in all Gamblers Anonymous meetings and was originally drafted by…
