FCCG Educational Programs

Post by Administrator » Mon Aug 25, 2014 4:09 pm

It’s back to school time for most children and young adults. The Florida Council on Compulsive offers a wide array of educational programs for students of all ages from the Smart Choices program which is geared towards 1st-5th graders to Middle and High School and College aged individuals. The FCCG believes that education in regards to problem and compulsive gambling is key in reducing the amount of negative impacts caused by compulsive gambling. These programs teach youth about the warning signs of problem gambling and how to spot those that may be struggling, statistics on youth gambling and healthy, positive alternatives.

All of the programs can be easily incorporated into existing curriculum's to teach children the value of money and how to make the best choices when faced with gambling opportunities of peer pressure to get involved in wagering. National statistics show that kids are making their first bet before they drink alcohol or use drugs. This is a sobering fact that needs to be known and addressed by parents , teachers and anyone else involved in the educational system.
