The FCCG’s Peer Connect Program was established in 2008, and today, continues to be a successful support service for 888-ADMIT-IT HelpLine contacts in choosing their individual path of recovery from a gambling addiction. The Peer Connect Program offers valuable insight into the world of gambling addiction and information on proven recovery strategies, such as professional treatment, self-help programs, financial counseling, and legal aid.

The Opportunity to Speak to Someone in Recovery

The FCCG’s Peer Connect Program provides gamblers and loved ones with the opportunity to speak to someone in recovery, or a loved one of someone in recovery, in an effort to facilitate an easier transition into recovery and/or treatment. This program’s goal is to motivate individuals to take necessary steps towards stopping gambling and rebuilding their lives, personally, professionally, and financially when necessary, through peer-to-peer support. During Peer Connect appointments, peers share their story of when they first began recovery, and can speak from experience on how the recovery process works. This program is not meant to take the place of counseling, 12-step meetings, faith-based treatment, or any other recovery method, but rather to serve as a complement to treatment by helping to guide the person into a comfortable path of their choosing.

Peer Connect also provides a much-needed support service for those living in remote areas of the state where clinical services and self-help programs are generally limited and/or unavailable. Peer Connect offers assistance with the FCCG’s A Chance for Change Recovery Workbooks and the FCCG’s Budget Toolkit as well. The FCCG’s seven-part series of self-help recovery workbooks, A Chance for Change, were developed for problem gamblers, loved ones and senior compulsive gamblers. Titled “A Chance for Change,” the workbooks are designed to act as a self-help program for persons suffering from the adverse effects of problem and compulsive gambling.
