One of my co-workers told me about a group of guys, early twenties to late thirties, who get together every week to play “Madden,” a football video game. They play it like a tournament, where the 1st two contestants play, the winner moves on to play again, the loser is out. The other attendees place bets on who they think will win. The other attendees do not have to play; they may come only to place a bet. The “house” gets paid out of the winnings before the actual winners get paid. She stated it is very organized with the betting and some of the players are very serious about it, going as far a having a point spread [like a regular football game], sometimes playing all night into the next morning.
