Just a few days ago I had the opportunity to attend the Ribbon Cutting ceremony for the City of Miami Family Safety Net Partnership. This agreement between Miami-Dade County, City of Miami Police Departments and New Horizons Comprehensive Treatment Center serves to provide interventionist strategies and linkages to our families living in Miami's most challenging neighborhoods. On hand were several important members of the community of Liberty City as well as a great turnout of residents of the Liberty Square Housing Development, locally known as "The Pork N Beans". Our materials were disseminate through the use of small "goodie" bags that were then handed out to all attendees. In addition to our materials, other organizations resources were made available to residents at resource tables. The event on a whole was a positive and successful one that is one of three other community events that are soon to follow (Brownsville, Overtown). New Horizons is a receptive partner that understand the need to get this information out into the community and into the hands of residents. We hope to continue working with them towards the next two events and to future opportunities to present our materials to the public.
