What to expect when you first call

For gamblers, the decision to enter into recovery is often not an easy one.  We live in a culture that reinforces the concept of, “pull yourself up by the bootstraps.” Within the addiction realm, there is a quiet voice that addicts have to contend with, for gamblers, that voice sounds like this, “if you have a gambling problem, just stop gambling.”

Addicts receive cultural messages that often make them think twice about seeking help. The seemingly taboo nature of asking for help is a major barrier that keeps people from seeking the help they need. For addicts, simply stopping on sheer will power alone is not an option. Luckily, for people who struggle with gambling, there is the Florida Council on Compulsive Gambling.

If you’ve landed on this page, you are probably familiar with our services. We operate a 24/7 multilingual helpline designed to furnish help to people negatively affected by problem gambling.  Our callers are often very anxious to make that first call. We are here to ease some of that anxiety!

First time callers can expect to speak with a dedicated, caring, and compassionate professional who has helped hundreds, if not thousands of people who struggle with problem gambling. First time callers are also worried about their anonymity, and with good reason. But rest assured, our hotline is 100% confidential. We do not share your information with any outside party.  And if we are being candid, you don’t even have to give us your real name. Actually, you don’t have to give us a name at all. Our helpline team has one objective, to pair you with the resources you need to start your recovery.

That’s it.

(We have a variety of programs and resources at our disposal!)

If gambling is becoming a problem, you can pick up the phone and call 888-ADMIT-IT. While many of our callers make that first call in distress, it is not uncommon that by the time they hang up, they experience some ease and clarity, for they have been given a roadmap to recovery.
